The Entrepreneurs New Customer – The Angel Investor
Mario Casabona is an Entrepreneur, Angel Investor and founder of Casabona Ventures, LLC (www.CasabonaVentures.com); a New Jersey based Company providing management services, strategic planning, and private equity (Angel) financing to early stage technology focused companies.
In 1982 Mr. Casabona was the founder and CEO of Electro-Radiation Inc. (ERI) of Fairfield, New Jersey, a developer of Navigation and Communications technology for the Defense Industry. In 1998 he was awarded the National Tibbetts Award, which recognizes contributions to the U.S. Science and Technology industry. In 2010 he was awarded the Financier of the Year Award from the New Jersey technology Council. In 2004, he sold ERI to Honeywell International, where until 2007 he continued to provide management and technical guidance as its Director of Electronic Protection, Defense and Space Systems (D&S) Business Unit in Morristown, New Jersey.
Mr. Casabona serves as a Commissioner on the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology. He is the Chairman of Jumpstart NJ Angel Network; Board member of the New Jersey AOC Chapter (a national defense industry association); Chairman Emeritus of the Research and Development Council of New Jersey; appointed by former Governor James E. McGreevey to the Jobs Growth and Economic Development Commission; and serves on The New Jersey Economic Development Authority Technology Advisory Board (TAB) and The Clean Technology Advisory Committee (CTAC). He is also on the advisory board of Fairleigh Dickinson University Rothman Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies; Stevens Institute of Technology Environmental Entrepreneurship Lab; Seton Hall University Entrepreneurial Studies; and the Meadowlands Business Accelerator. He is a founding member of the NJ Italy Trade Council and an active member of NJ Technology Council, IEEE, and Venture Association of NJ. Mr. Casabona also serves on the Boards of several private companies and non-for-profit organizations, is often quoted in mainstream and trade press outlets, and is a frequent guest speaker and panelist at University and Professional events.
In 2009, The Center for Italian & Italian-American Culture, in the tradition of honoring outstanding individuals of Italian descent, has selected Mario Casabona as the recipient for its Man of the Year Award.
Mr. Casabona, as an Electrical Engineer, holds 12 national and international patents – with 6 pending – in the field of Satellite based Navigation and Communications.
